My journey with Sisterlocks™ began because of the love that I have for my husband. My first few locking sessions were difficult and would take multiple days. My arms and fingers were tired and I had to take frequent breaks. Now I have more stamina that I ever believed possible for one person. My clients tire out quicker than I do. Most fall asleep in my chair. As the years have passed, I am faster, have more experience and am R-Certified to teach retightening classes.
The business is at its’ next level. The Locks4Life clientele has increased to the point that Sisterlocks™ is my full time job and I have moved into a salon of my own. Now I am mentoring others and helping them to reach their goals. We take our job seriously. Our appointments start on time and the atmosphere is relaxing and peaceful.
As Sisterlocks™ answers the call of our people for a hair management system that allows us to take care of our hair naturally, a business development seminar, coaching program and other Locks4Life salons specializing in Sisterlocks™ may be coming to a city near you. We are committed to helping those trained to do Sisterlocks™ establish strong businesses to meet the needs of clients all over the world.
There are several Sisterlocks™ trainees & Certified Consultants that work at Locks4Life in different capacities. Below are short bios for some of those that have been Sisterlocks™ trained that work out of Locks4Life.

Over 20 years ago I met this young girl, now mind you at the time I was still in my teens and was just about to graduate from High School. She said to me that I was going to marry her and that we were going to live happily ever after, you know like in the movies. Well, little did I know at the time that I was speaking to my soul mate and that we would in fact live a life happily ever after. To our union we have two beautiful children (which will soon be kicked out of the nest, I think the birds get a kick out of doing that just to see if they will fly).
Now on to my story…
I decided one day that I had had enough of the texturizers, s-curls, jeri curls and any other processing method. I think that has lead to some of the issues that I have with my hair today. So I set off on a journey to find something healthy for my hair that I could wear anywhere. I stumbled across this website called Sisterlocks™ and thought “WOW” that really looks nice but that name made me not want them in my hair (ah man what’s that in your hair??? Uhhh… Sisterlocks™ I continued to surf the website and noticed that they had something called “Brotherlocks®”, and well the rest is history.
I signed Paulette up for the class and couldn’t wait for her to finish. Two weeks (maybe not even that long) and I was bugging her to “Brotherlock®” my hair! She did such a great job that I was her walking billboard, people always coming up to me asking me what where those, “little braids?” And I, as I stuck my chest out and deepened my voice, Brotherlocks® I say! Well… I started referring people to Paulette and before you know it business is booming!!! It’s just like they say when you’re good you’re good (oh yeah and Paulette is good too!)
Now, I have taken the class as well. My goals are to help with the business and lend the male perspective.

I have a rather interesting Sisterlocks™ journey. I consider myself to be a certified job hopper. You name it I’m sure I have tried it. I am a college student at Wayne State University so money is always tight. In the beginning, I had no interest in taking the class. I kept thinking four days that’s a long time and a lot of money. After a year of watching so many excited women get out of my moms chair and seeing her build her Sisterlocks™ business, I was ready to help. I knew she needed the help but she would not teach me. She demanded that I take the Sisterlocks™ class to even help her with my dad or my brother.
I noticed that the Sisterlocks™ class was going to be in Michigan in August 2007. So I talked to my mom about it. Initially, she thought I was going to quit school. I assured her that I wasn’t quitting school. Next thing I knew I was signed up for the class. I was so excited I called off of my Day Care job pretending to be sick. Right after the class I retightened my brothers’ hair. I worked with my mom while she did her clients. A week after that, my mom wanted me to take care of one of her clients. It took four hours with no breaks, unlike with my brother I could stop whenever I wanted.
It has been fun having my mom mentor me, and working in the salon has been entertaining as well. All we do all day is crack jokes especially during locking sessions. Watching my mother’s business grow has been so inspiring. I also help plan the salon activities like the Holiday Party. I am hooked on doing Sisterlocks™. Who would have thought how much fun it would be.

Atoya wanted to enhance her education and increase the services that she could offer her clients, by attending the Sisterlocks™ training course in May 2006.

My journey into Sisterlocks™ has truly gone full circle. I started out with the intention of only being a client. Nonetheless, my experiences lead me to want to take the class and become a Certified Sisterlocks™ Consultant.
In December 2003, while looking in the mirror, I decided it was time for a hairstyle change. I had tried perms, ponytails, straw sets, sew-in weaves, braids, two-strain twist, and kinky twist. Bottom line, if it was a hairstyle and you can name it, I probably tried it. It was time to accept the “beautiful head of hair” the Lord had blessed me with. It was time to stop trying to make my hair something that it was not. So, I chose Sisterlocks™”.
Unlike many of you, my journey began with many tribulations. I had my first locking session in the summer of 2005. I truly cherished the look, the feel and comfort of wearing Sisterlocks™. Imagine gorgeous “Sisterlocked hair” (without added hair), natural, oil, wax, gel and chemical free. My new look gave me a feel of confidence and assurance. My new hairstyle made me feel so cheerful and free. However, my consultant’s aspirations lead her to pursue an additional career. I was forced to locate a new consultant.
Nevertheless, I DID NOT refer to the Official Sisterlocks™ Certified Consultant or Trainee Register, but chose to accept the recommendation of a well-known natural hair salon in my area. What’s more, my failure to insist on using a “Sisterlocks™ trained” person resulted in my beautiful Sisterlocks™ being destroyed and ultimately I had to cut them off. I was devastated.
In March of 2006, I vowed not to give up my journey of embracing my natural hair. Therefore, after countless Sisterlocks™ research hours, I found Sisterlocks™ Consultant, Paulette Brown who helped me work through the pain of starting over. Now, with each day, I find myself loving my Sisterlocks™ more and more. I love them so much; I just want to share my joy with the entire world.
My passion for protecting the integrity of Sisterlocks™; my past experience with a “Step-Sisterlocks” consultant; coupled with the desire to help others experience the beauty of embracing their natural hair through Sisterlocks™, has lead me to pursue a career as a Certified Sisterlocks™ Consultant.

It's been an exquisite journey! From the first day I saw one of Paulette's clients, Sisterlocks™ was the hairstyle I wanted. Not even knowing Paulette, or her client whose hair I fondled prior to introducing myself, I emailed Paulette the next day @ "Locks4Life."
At my consultation I was ready for locks but my hair was too short. I had thrown in the towel (literally) and shaved my hair off a number of years prior. Prior to shaving it off I had cut, colored, curled, flat ironed, permed, texturized braided, twisted, wrapped and waived my hair. I had spent countless hours and dollars at salons. And let’s not even talk about the truckloads of products I purchased.
I was ready for Sisterlocks™, and two months later, I had Locks4Life! I loved them from the very first day--hundreds of little locks all over my head. During a retightening session months later, Paulette mentioned that she was ready to grow her business and needed trained consultants. I thought this would be an excellent opportunity for me and the timing was perfect. Shortly thereafter during another retightening, I told Paulette that I was interested in taking the Sisterlocks class.
She was as excited as I was, and immediately went into “mentoring mom mode.” Less than a year later…I’m Sisterlocks trained! It’s been a blessing to have someone to help guide me through this Sisterlocks journey. Now I want to make sure that everyone’s Sisterlocks journey is as pleasant as mine. Thanks Paulette!

My natural hair journey started at the suggestion of my husband more than 10 years ago. I didn’t listen to his suggestion until 2001 when I grew weary of the braids, relaxers, and unprofessionalism in various salons. I didn’t wait to transition I just did it. I cut off more than 12 inches of relaxed hair and wore a low fade. I enjoyed the freedom of my haircut and Corporate America didn’t mind the hair cut either.
I wore two strand twists, comb coils, curly afros, and afro puffs. It wasn’t until I decided to grow traditional locks that I experienced subtle critics in business meetings and various looks from people in executive management that made me cut my hair again. The one comment in a meeting that I will never forget from a director was…”Oh I didn’t think you washed your hair.” I couldn’t believe I was living in the year of 2005. I just cut it, because I didn’t want my struggles of obtaining my Marketing B.S. and MBA to be lost all due to a hairstyle.
After cutting my hair I felt defeated and was determined to have my hair the way I wanted it. I love everything about natural hair and I began educating myself and consulting with various lawyers concerning my experience. That is when I began researching Sisterlocks™ and thus found Locks4Life and Paulette.
July 15, 2006 was my homecoming to Sisterlocks™ and I haven’t looked back since. I even took the re-tightening class and I have been maintaining my own hair for a year now. How empowering is that? Armed with 2 degrees, 10 years of professional experience, my natural hair knowledge gained through 10 years of research, knowledge concerning natural hair and Corporate America, and my recent enrollment in the Sisterlock™ Training class in Atlanta I am ready and willing to bring the Locks4Life experience to the Atlanta Metro area. Locks4Life is all about creating clients 4 life and that is my motto when you sit in my chair.
Kind Regards, Katrina
